KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs announced Tuesday that backup quarterback Tyler Bray suffered a torn ACL in his left knee.

The offseason injury occurred at Bray’s home and he is scheduled for surgery in the coming days, according to the Chiefs.

The 6-6, 215-pound Bray originally joined the Chiefs in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee.

He spent the 2014 season on injured reserve after suffering knee and ankle injuries during the final preseason game.

The Chiefs signed quarterback Terrelle Pryor to a reserve/future contract on Jan. 8 to bolster depth to the offseason roster.

Pryor joins fellow quarterbacks Alex Smith, Chase Daniel and Aaron Murray with Bray sidelined.

“Anytime one of your players suffers a significant injury like Tyler’s it is disappointing, and we hurt for the player,” general manager John Dorsey said in a statement released by the team. “With Tyler’s injury having a longer recovery time, we’ve signed quarterback Terrelle Pryor to a reserve/futures contract.

“As we’ve said before, we are always looking to add talented players to our roster, and Terrelle was among the top players on our ready list at that position with his athleticism and experience. We believe having him in our quarterback room and working with our offensive coaches will enhance his growth.”

The Chiefs carried Smith, Daniel and Murray on the active 53-man roster in 2014.

Daniel enters the final year of his contract and is due a base salary of $3.75 million in 2015.
