Wednesday Injury Report: Josh Simmons Out Wednesday for Back, Personal Reason

Wednesday Injury Report: Josh Simmons Out Wednesday for Back, Personal Reason

Matt Derrick October 21, 2026

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Josh Simmons did not practice on Wednesday as the team prepares to travel to Seattle in Week 7, with the Chiefs’ left tackle listed as a non-participant with a “back/personal” designation.

A team spokesperson did not detail the personal reason for the absence of Simmons. He was briefly seen in the locker room during the 45-minute window open to the media.

During his Wednesday morning press conference, Coach Andy Reid did not include Simmons among the players who were expected to be held out of the afternoon workout. Reid identified wide receiver Rashee Rice (hamstring/knee) and right tackle Jaylon Moore (concussion) as the two players who would not practice, and both were non-participants Wednesday.

Reid didn’t mention Simmons during Wednesday’s press conference, nor was he asked about Simmons. A club spokesperson later said that the plan was for Simmons to sit out Wednesday’s practice, and that omission during the press conference was inadvertent.

Reid did discuss the tackle’s status during a Zoom press conference Monday: “Josh is still probably going to be ramping up as we go,” Reid said.

Simmons was a limited participant in each of the team’s three practices last week preparing to face the Los Angeles Chargers. In his Friday press conference, Reid said Simmons “was excited to be out there” with his teammates and getting on the field rather than in the meeting room.

“Yeah, he got some work in,” Reid said. “He didn’t work in the team periods, but that was the idea, though, that we went out with, just so we could get some base on him with some fundamentals and technique and start getting that back. I assume it’s frustrating for him not to be able to do this.”

As for Moore and Rice, Reid didn’t put a timeline on the return of either player.

“Jaylon Moore has a concussion, so he’s in the protocol,” Reid said. “Then Rashee is with the hamstring. So, we’ll just see how those guys do. Rashee’s getting better as we go by the day, so that helps.
