Cornerback Phillip Gaines, who left Tuesday’s practice with a knee injury, appeared to practice without limitations.

While coach Andy Reid said after practice to not read too much into personnel groupings given the scaled-down nature of Wednesday’s practice, the Chiefs may have erred on the side of caution with Gaines considering the team is off Thursday.

Gaines, who also left Monday’s practice after tweaking his knee, worked with the second-team defense instead of with the starting unit.

Rookie cornerback Marcus Peters took Gaines’ place with the starters.

Wide receiver Armon Binns practiced after leaving Tuesday’s session with an ankle injury, while defensive end David Irving (back) returned after missing the last three practices.

Quarterback Tyler Bray (knee), linebacker James-Michal Johnson (calf), wide receiver Chris Conley (knee) and tight end Demetrius Harris (foot) continue to not practice.

Wide receiver Jeret Smith, who suffered a hamstring injury Tuesday, joined the quartet on the sidelines to work with trainers.

Defensive tackle Dontari Poe (back) and wide receiver Junior Hemingway (hip) were once again not present on the practice field.
