KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chiefs safety Eric Berry (ankle) did not practice Thursday after working out Monday and Wednesday.

The coaching staff was not available after practice, so it remains to be seen if Berry suffered a setback or if the Chiefs are resting him. Those scenarios will likely be addressed Friday when coach Andy Reid addresses the media.

Defensive back Ron Parker, who has filled in for Berry the last three games, would start Sunday if Berry can’t play against the San Diego Chargers.

Joining Berry as not practicing are running back Cyrus Gray (hand) and cornerback Chris Owens (knee).

Gray is expected to practice Friday, but Owens’ status for Sunday’s game is in doubt.

The Chiefs can turn to rookie cornerback Phillip Gaines (concussion), who practiced fully for a second straight day, or cornerback Jamell Fleming if Owens can’t play.

Cornerback Sean Smith (groin) put in a full practice Thursday after being limited Wednesday.

Wide receiver Donnie Avery, who underwent sports hernia surgery on Oct. 3, is out.

The Chargers added center/guard Rich Ohrnberger to the injury report. Ohrnberger joins a group of six players, including cornerback Brandon Flowers (groin), as not practicing.

Flowers has missed two straight days of practice.
