KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs ruled running back Jamaal Charles officially out for the first game of the season against San Diego, listing him among the inactive players for the game.

Also inactive for the Chiefs: quarterback Tyler Bray, wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas, cornerbacks KeiVarae Russell and Kenneth Acker, offensive lineman Bryan Witzmann and defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches.

Charles returned to practice last month and remains listed as limited according to the team’s practice report. Coach Andy Reid on Friday called it unlikely Charles would play against the Chargers. He continues recovering from knee surgery last October for a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

The Chiefs listed all other players from Friday’s practice report active for Sunday’s game. That includes linebacker Tamba Hali (knee), cornerback Phillip Gaines (knee) and running back Charcandrick West (elbow).

Inactive players for the Chargers: safety Adrian Phillips, running back Andre Williams, center Max Tuerk, tackle Tyreek Burwell, offensive lineman Kenny Wiggins, wide receiver Isaiah Burse and defensive tackle Ryan Carrethers.
