RB Jamaal Charles inactive against Dolphins

RB Jamaal Charles inactive against Dolphins

The Chiefs list running back Jamaal Charles (ankle) as inactive for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

Charles made a surprise return to practice on Thursday and Friday, albeit in a limited fashion. His presence on the practice field less than a week after suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 2 raised optimism he could be available Sunday.

Second-year pro Knile Davis, who totaled 105 yards (79 rushing) and two touchdowns last week, will start in Charles’s place and carry the load.

The other Chiefs inactives are quarterback Aaron Murray, strong safety Eric Berry (ankle), guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, defensive end Damion Square, running back/wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas (hamstring) and wide receiver Albert Wilson.

Defensive back Ron Parker is expected to start in Berry’s place.

Thomas has now missed three straight regular-season games since injuring his hamstring on Sept. 3.

Wide receiver Frankie Hammond Jr. will likely continue handle punt return duties, and the Chiefs could lean on Hammond and running back Joe McKnight to handle kickoffs with Davis starting for Charles.
