Josh Simmons, Chamarri Conner Out for Chiefs vs. Colts on Sunday Night in Week 2

Josh Simmons, Chamarri Conner Out for Chiefs vs. Colts on Sunday Night in Week 2

Matt Derrick September 18, 2026

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Left tackle Josh Simmons and safety Chamarri Conner will miss their second straight games as the Chiefs host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night, but the prospects appear brighter for two key defensive starters.

Defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback Mansoor Delane practiced on Friday, leaving Coach Andy Reid optimistic for their prospects this weekend. Both players are listed as questionable for the game. Jones tweaked his calf in practice last week while Delane landed hard on his right shoulder after making an interception against the Denver Broncos. It was the same shoulder that limited him for much of training camp in St. Joseph.

“Delane practiced today,” Reid said. “Chris Jones did a little bit today too, but I think we’ll be okay there.”

Friday marks one month since Simmons missed his first training camp practice on Aug. 18 due to a back issue. Simmons later sought a second opinion on the back injury with back and spine specialist Robert Watkins in Los Angeles.

“He’s at the two-week mark now, so they’ll go back and reevaluate it,” Reid said, referring to Dr. Watkins’ evaluation. “But I know he’s feeling better than what he was. Was good enough to play? We’ll see.”

Conner also remains out with a knee injury. Reid has not specified the nature of the injury, but he did say Conner is continuing to deal with inflammation.

“Just a matter of the swelling staying consistently out of it, but he’s doing everything you know he could possibly do with the trainers,” Reid said. “But it is getting better.”

Colts wide receiver Alex Pierce, who did not practice Thursday with a heel issue, was a full participant Friday and has no game-status tag, meaning he’s expected to play.

Indianapolis wide receiver Ashton Dulin (ankle) was ruled out on Friday while running back DJ Giddens (knee) is questionable.
