DE Frank Clark, DT Chris Jones Out for Chiefs Hosting Packers Sunday Night

Matt Derrick October 27, 2019

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A depleted Chiefs roster will take the field Sunday night at Arrowhead Stadium with the club ruling six starters ruled out, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, defensive end Frank Clark and defensive end Chris Jones.

The loss of Clark and Jones leaves the Chiefs without their two best pass-rushing threats. Emmanuel Ogbah expects to start opposite Alex Okafor on the end of the line with Derrick Nnadi and Khalen Saunders inside.

Head coach Andy Reid said on Wednesday the team planned to rest Clark in an effort to calm down a troublesome neck issue. But his absence for Sunday's game shows it remains an issue.

“It's getting better,” Reid said.

Three other starters also will not play: left tackle Eric Fisher (groin), left guard Andrew Wylie (ankle) and cornerback Kendall Fuller (thumb)

Two players saw changes in their practice status on Friday. Cornerback Kendall Fuller went from not practicing Wednesday and Thursday to limited participation on Friday as he returns from surgery for a broken thumb a week ago. Left tackle Eric Fisher was a limited participant the previous two days but did not practice on Friday. He underwent surgery for a core muscle injury following Week 2. Reid did not address either player's change in status.

The Chiefs do have one bit of good news on the injury front with wide receiver Sammy Watkins set to return after a two-game absence with a hamstring injury.

“He's felt pretty good the whole week, he's done a nice job,” Reid said. “I think he's looking forward to getting back out there.”

The Packers have injury issues of their own with 18 players on their injury report. But the team hasn't ruled out anyone, including wide receiver Davante Adams. He's missed the past three games with turf toe after catching 10 passes for 180 yards in Week 4 against Philadelphia.

Green Bay on Saturday downgraded starting inside linebacker Blake Martinez (wrist/hand) to questionable.
