KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After watching five players leave via free agency within the first few hours of the official start of league’s calendar year, the Chiefs apparently have re-signed one of their own.

The Chiefs lost left tackle Branden Albert to the Miami Dolphins, wide receiver/punt returner Dexter McCluster to the Tennessee Titans, defensive end Tyson Jackson and guard Jon Asamoah to the Atlanta Falcons, and guard Geoff Schwartz to the New York Giants.

But free safety Husain Abduallah is staying with the Chiefs after a report surfaced on Twitter from Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports the Chiefs and Abdullah agreed to a two-year deal.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

The Chiefs haven’t confirmed the signing and attempts to reach Abdullah’s agent were unsuccessful.

Nevertheless, there’s a better source to acknowledge the transaction in Abdullah, who took to Twitter to express his joy of returning to the Chiefs:

Excited to be back in KC. #Alhamdulilah #ChiefsKingdom http://t.co/p9Bk8xFF1P

A fifth-year pro out of Washington State, Abdullah originally entered the NFL in 2008 as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings where he spent four seasons.

Abdullah, a practicing Muslim, sat out the 2012 season to make a pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

He joined the Chiefs on Feb. 18, 2013 as a free agent after signing a one-year contract. Abdullah appeared in all 16 regular season games with two starts, recording 17 tackles (12 solo), .5 sacks, two quarterback pressures and an interception returned for a touchdown.

Abdullah also started in the Chiefs’ postseason game against the Indianapolis Colts where he had six solo tackles, two interceptions and two passes defensed.

His two interceptions off Colts quarterback Andrew Luck tied a Chiefs single-game postseason record and he became the sixth player in team history to produce the statistic.
