KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs on Tuesday waived wide receiver Fred Williams.
The 6-0, 190-pound Williams signed a reserve/future contract on Jan. 17 after spending a large portion of the 2015 regular season on the practice squad.
He led the Chiefs during the 2015 preseason with 15 catches for 167 yards and three touchdowns in four exhibition games.
Williams, who played collegiately at St. Cloud State, spent two seasons with the San Jose Sabercats in the Arena Football League (2012-13) before the Chiefs first signed him to the practice squad in December 2013. He also spent time on the Chiefs practice squad in 2014.
The Chiefs have 11 wide receivers on the roster ahead of organized team activities: Jeremy Maclin, Albert Wilson, Chris Conley, Rod Streater, De’Anthony Thomas, Mike Williams, Frankie Hammond Jr., Da’Ron Brown, Kenny Cook, Kashif Moore and Demarcus Robinson, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
