KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was not present on the practice field Tuesday, but his ankle injury shouldn’t cause concern.
“Travis got a slightly sprained ankle,” coach Andy Reid said Tuesday. “It’s not a high-ankle sprain.”
And with the Chiefs set to face the St. Louis Rams in Thursday night’s preseason finale, Reid also left little doubt on the severity of Kelce’s injury.
“There’s a chance if we were playing a regular-season game that he’d be a pretty good shot of playing,” Reid said.
Kelce suffered the ankle injury during Monday afternoon’s practice, but was able to leave the field under his own power.
“Looks like he got is foot caught in the grass and tweaked his ankle a little bit,” Reid said. “I think he’s lucky the grass gave way a little bit, actually.”
The Chiefs open the regular season Sept. 13 on the road against the Houston Texans.
