Chiefs sign DT Derrick Nnadi, three tryout players

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs announced the signing of third-round draft pick Derrick Nnadi Thursday afternoon, concluding contract negotiations with all of their 2018 draft picks while also signing three tryout players who participated in this week’s minicamp.

The club signed free agent wide receiver Josh Crockett, fullback Algernon Brown and offensive tackle Bentley Spain.

The 6-foot-3, 192-pound Crockett played at MIAA Central Oklahoma. He caught 50 passes for 758 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior for the Broncos. He also returned kicks, averaging 20.9 yards on 14 returns. Crockett also rushed four times for 69 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown run against Missouri Southern last October. He posted a 4.59 40-yard time at this pro day in March.

Brown, a former BYU running back, signed with Seattle last season as an undrafted free agent and later spent time in training camp with the New York Jets. He totaled 1,310 yards rushing with 13 touchdowns over four seasons with the Cougars. He also caught 35 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 235-pound back posted a 4.63 40-yard time with 21 bench reps at his pro day in 2017.

Spain, a 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman started 33 games at left  tackle for North Carolina the past three seasons. Spain lined up at tackle during his minicamp tryout, but some scouts believe guard might be his more natural position. Spain did not work out as his pro day due to an ankle injury.

The team waived three players to make room for the new acquisitions: guard Kaleb Johnson, cornerback Malik Reaves and fullback J.D. Moore.

Terms for Nnadi’s rookie contract were not immediately available.
