KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Skyy Moore era is over in Kansas City after the club shipped the fourth-year wide receiver to the San Francisco 49ers in an exchange of 2027 late-round draft picks.
The 49ers will receive Moore along with Kansas City’s 2027 seventh-round draft choice. The Chiefs, in exchange, will receive San Francisco’s 2027 sixth-round draft choice, a source confirmed to Chiefs Digest Wednesday evening.
The 24-year-old Moore was selected by the Chiefs No. 54 overall in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound receiver played 36 regular-season games for the Chiefs with 11 starts. He caught 43 passes for 494 yards with one touchdown during the regular season.
Moore’s biggest highlight with the Chiefs came in the 2023 Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles when Moore caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes on the “Corn Dog” reverse motion route. Moore’s score with 9:22 left in the fourth quarter helped lead the Chiefs to a 38-35 victory.
Moore is expected to have an opportunity with the 49ers immediately. Brandon Aiyuk has yet to return to action after an ACL injury last October. Jauan Jennings and Jordan Watkins have also been dealing with injuries. Earlier on Wednesday, the 49ers revealed that former Chiefs receiver Demarcus Robinson is facing a three-game suspension after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge last month.
What the Move Means for KC
Moore appeared to be on the wrong side of the roster bubble for the Chiefs with Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Jaylen Royals and Tyquan Thornton expected to make the club’s 53-player roster. Moore’s roster bid likely depended on winning a battle with fellow receiver Nikko Remigio for a return specialist role as a seventh receiver. Earlier in training camp, special teams coordinator Dave Toub stated a preference for Remigio in that role.
Remigio and Jason Brownlee now appear to be the last two players in line for a potential seventh receiver slot, although Brownlee is not considered a likely option as a return specialist.
Moore’s History in KC
Injuries, unfortunately, punctuated Moore’s last two seasons in Kansas City. After playing in 16 games as a rookie, catching 22 passes for 250 yards, Moore suffered season-ending injuries the next two years that kept him out of the team’s postseason runs.
In 2023, More caught 21 passes for 244 yards in 14 games before a knee injury forced him onto the injured reserve list. He was designated for return ahead of that season’s Super Bowl victory over the 49ers, but he did not play in the game.
He played in just six games without recording a catch on three targets last season before a core-muscle injury ended his season.
Moore finished his career with the Chiefs in style, however, returning a punt 88 yards for a touchdown in Friday’s preseason game at the Seattle Seahawks.
