Chiefs Elevate DT Marlon Tuipulotu vs. Chargers in Brazil, Rookie Omarr Norman-Lott Out

Chiefs Elevate DT Marlon Tuipulotu vs. Chargers in Brazil, Rookie Omarr Norman-Lott Out

Matt Derrick September 5, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs rookie defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott will not make his NFL debut Friday night after the club included him on its inactive list against the Los Angeles Chargers for Friday night’s season opener in Brazil

Norman-Lott was listed as questionable entering the game due to a high ankle sprain. Earlier in the day, the Chiefs elevated DT Marlon Tuipulotu from the practice squad for the game.

The 6-foot-2, 307-pound Tuipulotu is best suited to back up defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi in the team’s run defense. He played 95 snaps during the team’s three preseason games with three tackles and two quarterback pressures.

Rookie Jalen Royals will also miss the first game of the season due to knee tendonitis. Royals did not travel with the team to Brazil.

Kansas City’s complete inactive list for Week 1 against the Chargers:

  • WR Jalen Royals
  • RB Elijah Mitchell
  • TE Jared Wiley
  • C/G Hunter Nourzad
  • DT Omarr Norman-Lott
  • DE Malik Herring

The Chiefs are going with rookie Brashard Smith as the third running back, and he’s expected to serve alongside Nikko Remigio as the team’s kick returners. Wiley’s absence means veteran Robert Tonyan will join Travis Kelce and Noah Gray as the team’s three tight ends.

The backup offensive linemen tonight will be tackles Jaylon Moore and Wanya Morris and interior lineman Mike Caliendo.

Chargers right guard Mekhi Becton was added to the team’s injury report Friday with an illness but he will start against the Chiefs. Los Angeles elevated offensive tackle Foster Sarell from the practice squad in case Becton couldn’t play. Safell was included on the team’s inactive list.

The Chargers also elevated long snapper Rick Lovato, who is filling in for the injured Josh Harris.

The Chargers’ complete inactive list for Week 1:

  • TE Tucker Fisk
  • TE Oronde Gadsden
  • OT Foster Sarell
  • DL Naquan Jones
  • LB Kyle Kennard
  • CB Nikko Reed
  • S RJ Mickens
