KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs made two roster moves ahead of the March 11 start of free agency, according to Thursday’s official NFL Transaction report.
The Chiefs waived tight end Dominque Jones and released linebacker Robert James, moves that potentially saved a little more than $1 million in cap space.
Jones originally joined the Chiefs practice squad in October 2013. The Chiefs elevated Jones to the active roster in Week 14 and he appeared in two games before landing on the non-football injury, illness list on Dec. 18.
The Chiefs signed James as a free agent on Dec. 31 after placing linebacker James-Michael Johnson on injured reserve a week before the first round of the playoffs.
James played in the Chiefs’ playoff loss against the Indianapolis Colts.
