Chiefs Add Punter Matt Araiza to Thursday’s Injury Report with Illness

Chiefs Add Punter Matt Araiza to Thursday’s Injury Report with Illness

NEW ORLEANS – The Chiefs remain virtually injury-free with only one more practice remaining for Super Bowl LIX on Sunday despite the addition of punter Matt Araiza to the injury report Thursday with an illness.

Araiza was still a full participant despite the illness designation after the team’s Thursday afternoon practice. The illness is not significant and should not affect his availability for Sunday, a source told Chiefs Digest.

Thursday morning coach Andy Reid declared his team fully fit.

“I don’t have any injuries for you, the guys are healthy and going,” Reid said.

The rest of the injury report was unchanged from Wednesday. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes (ankle) and right tackle Jawaan Taylor (knee) were full participants. Wide receiver Skyy Moore (abdomen) was limited. Moore remains on injured reserve and is not expected to play in Sunday’s game.

Mahomes remains on the team’s injury report stemming from his high ankle sprain suffered Dec. 15 in a victory over the Cleveland Browns. The issue hasn’t caused him to miss any practice or game time but he continues to receive treatment and wears additional wrapping on the ankle.

While the Chiefs installed their game plan last week in Kansas City, Reid said this week focuses on polishing the details.

“Sometimes you can get caught up, and when you’re back home – hey, listen, we have another week to get ready,” Reid said. “Well, now, that’s not where we’re at. So right now, it’s Thursday before the game, and you got to up the concentration level, and make sure that you keep things fine-tuned here.”

The Eagles also had an addition to their injury report on Thursday. Backup offensive guard Nick Gates (groin) was one of three players who were limited on Thursday, along with wide receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and defensive Brandon Graham (elbow).

Graham and tight end C.J. Uzomah (abdomen), who was a full participant on Thursday, remain on injured reserve with a designation to return. The Eagles have until 3 p.m. central time Saturday if the club wants to activate them for Sunday’s game.
