ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Mia Bieniemy, wife of Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, is making progress after she was shot Sunday night at the family’s home in Virginia.
Coach Andy Reid delievered the update on Mia Bieniemy following the team’s Wednesday morning training camp practice.
“She’s doing great,” Reid said. “She’s doing better and great from where she was out of the ICU unit and making progress. So we’re happy about that. EB’s still with her, and that part’s important.”
Elijah Bieniemy, the couple’s 27-year-old son, was arrested following the shooting and is being held without bond He is charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm in a dwelling. He was arraigned on Monday and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 31.
A criminal complaint obtained by NBC Washington News4 indicated Bieniemy was shot twice in the upper. A portion of a projectile lodged in her body, the criminal report detailed. Authorities have not yet shared any possible motive for the shooting.
Reid acknowledge the team misses Eric Bieniemy while he tends to his wife and family, but underscored that his offensive coordinator is where he is needed most right now.
“Eric’s a big part of this, and so love having him here,” Reid said. “But right now it’s important that he takes care of business. And everybody knows that, so everybody’s game is picked up, and they’re working hard, and you know Eric will be back soon enough to jump in there and do his thing. But he’s got to take care of that first.”
