KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Wide receiver Hollywood Brown will return for a second season in Kansas City after agreeing to a one-year deal worth up to $11 million, as first reported by NFL Network.
The terms of the deal were not immediately available. The Chiefs were hoping to retain Brown with a contract heavy on incentives.
Brown joined the Chiefs last March on a one-year, $7 million deal with $6.5 million guaranteed and $4 million in bonuses. That would put the new deal in line with last year’s contract.
The 27-year-old Brown suffered a sternoclavicular injury during the preseason that later required surgery. He was limited to two regular-season games, registering nine catches for 91 yards. In three playoff contests he caught five passes for 50 yards.
Brown signed with the Chiefs as a free agent from Arizona last March on a one-year, $6.5 million deal that included $4.5 million in incentives and bonuses for a total potential value of $11 million. He achieved his $250,000 workout bonuses and earned $29,412 in active game-day bonuses. The injury prevented him from earning an additional $220,588 in game-day bonuses as well as incentives worth up to $4 million: $1 million for touchdowns (7), $1.5 million for playing time (75% of snaps) and $1.5 million for receiving yards ($1.5 million).
Injuries to Brown and Rashee Rice prevented the Chiefs in 2024 from ever having their top three receivers on the field at the same time. Brown made his season debut in Week 16 against the Houston Texans, while Rashee Rice suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Coincidentally, Brown agreed to terms with the Chiefs on his new contract less than 24 hours after the arrest of receiver Xavier Worthy on an assault charge in Texas.
