Injury Report: Damien Williams Easing Back In, Frank Clark Still Limited

Matt Derrick August 8, 2019

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Chiefs running back Damien Williams continued expanding his portfolio during his second day back at practice after returning from a hamstring injury, but head coach Andy Reid wants his feature back moving ahead slowly.

“We're just easing him back in, we don't want to take any steps back with his hamstring,” Reid said. “But he's worked hard, looks good.”

Darrel Williams took the first reps with the No. 1 offense on Thursday with both Damien Williams and Carlos Hyde working into the rotation. Reid didn't confirm whether Damien Williams would play in the team's preseason opener Saturday night against Cincinnati.

Defensive end Frank Clark (sore wrist) did appear on the field Thursday with his helmet and pads. He participated in warmups and position drills, then headed to the training tent on the sideline for work on an exercise bike. He left practice early and headed to the locker room.

Reid said wide receiver Sammy Watkins (finger) and tight end David Wells (calf contusion) “got a little banged up, but not bad” during Thursday's workout. Both players missed a few reps but later returned to action.

Defensive tackle Xavier Williams continues dealing with a lower back issue that's been acting up, Reid said.

Wide receiver Gehrig Dieter (back) and defensive end Alex Okafor (hip) did not practice Thursday and appear unlikely to play Saturday.
