Injury Report: Frank Clark, Sammy Watkins Battling Illness as Camp Nears Close

Matt Derrick August 15, 2019

ST. JOSPEH, Mo. — The Chiefs hold their final training camp practice on Thursday, and thus far the club appears set to conclude camp without any major injuries slowing the team's progress.

Only two expected starters didn't take the field on Wednesday. Wide receiver Sammy Watkins didn't attend practice due to a reported illness. Watkins is also battling a hand injury, a source tells Chiefs Digest, which he appeared to aggravate on Tuesday.

Defensive end Frank Clark did attend practice on Wednesday, but primarily worked out on his own along the sidelines. Clark is nursing a sore wrist, and a missed practiced Tuesday with an illness.

Also not practicing Wednesday were wide receivers Gehrig Dieter (back) and Davon Grayson (knee), tight end/fullback John Lovett (shoulder) and cornerback Michael Hunter (groin).

Linebacker Darius Harris (shoulder) remains on the non-football injury list and has yet to practice this season.

Lovett suffered a separated shoulder during Saturday's preseason win over Cincinnati. He's appeared on the field with his right arm in a sling this week. The Chiefs haven't revealed the extent of the injury, but fellow tight end Travis Kelce said he told Lovett to stay positive.

“Injuries, unfortunately, it's a part of the game, but it's something that you got to get through and you got to deal with mentally and obviously the rehab and the physical aspect of it,” Kelce said.

“He's doing well, mentally he's just got to stay in the playbook and be ready for his opportunity when he gets back out there.”
