Hatley signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in May. He stayed with the team throughout training camp and the preseason. The team placed him on waivers during the final cut down to 53 players.

The Chiefs made space on their practice squad by playing offensive lineman Joseph Cheek on injured reserve.

A part of Missouri’s “D-Line Zou,” Hatley played 45 for the Tigers and started his junior and senior season. He totaled 35 tackles along with 32 assists. He picked up 6 1/2 tackles for loss with three sacks.

The Chiefs also tried out three players Tuesday, including former Stanford cornerback Alex Carter and cornerback Josh Thornton from Southern Utah.

The team also tried out safety Aaron Williams, a second-round pick for Buffalo in 2011, suffered a serious neck injury last November. Williams played in 59 games during the last six seasons with the Bills, tallying 255 tackles and seven interceptions.
