Chiefs running backs engage in holiday high jinks

Chiefs running backs engage in holiday high jinks

Matt Derrick December 25, 2016

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The funniest holiday moment for the Kansas City Chiefs might have started off as an inside joke, but running back Charcandrick West had to share the hilarity on social media.

“It’s hands down one of the funniest Christmas cards I think I’ve ever seen in my life,” West chuckled.

The holiday scene celebrates the Chiefs running back group, even down to including practice squad running back Darrin Reaves in the background laughing in one window and fullback Trey Millard, on injured reserve, walking by in another.

West is on the floor with his dog, while fullback Anthony Sherman kneels for an embrace.

Even running backs coach Eric Bienemy is there — as Santa, of course.

“I laughed for hours,” West said. “It was crazy.”

West does not exactly know who created it, but it apparently originated somewhere inside the organization.

“They made it and sent it to us,” West said. “It’s in our running back room on the wall. We walk in and that picture’s on the wall.”

West said the team’s backs have fun at each other’s expense all the time.

“That’s the things, these guys are my brothers,” West said. “We can laugh at the stuff like that. But that’s funny though.”

West attended Abilene Christian, which last week hired coach Adam Dorrel from Northwest Missouri State. Dorrel won three NCAA Division II national titles in six seasons with the Bearcats.

“I hope he can do the program some good,” West said. “I hope he can take some of that success to Abilene Christian.

West played for former Abilene Christian coach Ken Collums, and was sorry to see him let go by the university.

“A great coach and a great man,” West said. “I hated that happen, but I hope the program gets back on track.”
