KANSAS CITY, Mo. – With the NFL Draft in the books, the Chiefs turn attention to adding undrafted free agents ahead of the weekend’s rookie minicamp and two players have been identified.
The Chiefs signed Vanderbilt guard Jake Bernstein and Dartmouth defensive back Vernon Harris to contracts, sources confirmed in recent days with The Topeka Capital-Journal and ChiefsDigest.com. The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Chiefs have not announced the transactions.
The 6-4, 310-pound Bernstein had a predraft visit with the Chiefs, as reported by The Capital-Journal and ChiefsDigest.com on April 9. He started 35 games at Vanderbilt and can play right guard and center.
Harris, who measures 6-1, 197 pounds, possesses 4.49 40-yard dash speed and was a first-team All-Ivy League selection in 2015. He totaled 50 tackles (32 solo) and three interceptions in his senior season.
The Chiefs also invited South Dakota linebacker Keyen Lage to attend the minicamp on a tryout basis, a source confirmed.
