KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs on Monday announced the signing of veteran wide receiver Mike Williams.
While the Chiefs did not disclose terms, Williams signed a one-year deal, a source confirmed Monday evening with The Topeka Capital-Journal and ChiefsDigest.com.
The 6-2, 212-pound Williams, who turns 29 on May 18, was out of football in 2015 after being suspended the first six games for an undisclosed reason.
He entered the league in 2010 as a fourth-round pick out of Syracuse with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he spent four seasons and appeared in 56 games with 52 starts from 2010-13.
During his time in Tampa, Williams totaled 2,947 yards receiving and 25 touchdowns on 215 catches. He appeared in just six games in 2013 after landing on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
The Buffalo Bills acquired Williams from the Buccaneers via trade in 2014, but he totaled just eight catches for 142 yards and a touchdown in nine games with no starts. The Bills released Williams in December 2014.
Williams becomes the 11th wide receiver on the Chiefs’ roster ahead of the draft, joining Jeremy Maclin, Albert Wilson, Chris Conley, Rod Streater, De’Anthony Thomas, Frankie Hammond Jr., Fred Williams, Da’Ron Brown, Kenny Cook and Kashif Moore.
