INDIANAPOLIS – The NFL Scouting Combine wrapped up the media access portion Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

But the Combine ends Monday for the draft prospects in attendance, giving the Chiefs extra days to hold formal interviews and informal meetings.

A vast majority of the defensive backs to come through the media room throughout Saturday morning and afternoon said they had formal interviews scheduled in the evening with unknown teams.

Four defensive backs, however, are confirmed to have met with the Chiefs in an informal setting Friday night: Virginia cornerback Maurice Canady, North Carolina State cornerback Juston Burris, Baylor cornerback Xavien Howard and TCU free safety Derrick Kindred.

The cornerbacks, in particular, have the size that often appeals to the Chiefs.

Canady measured 6-1, 193 pounds at the Combine; Burris measured 6-0, 212 pounds; and Howard came in at 6-0, 201 pounds.

The Chiefs utilize a press-man scheme under defensive coordinator Bob Sutton, but Canady admits a level of inexperience.

“In college, I have not played a whole lot of press,” Canady said. “But I was able to showcase that in Mobile, Ala., at the Senior Bowl.”

Canady, who projects as a fourth-round pick by NFLDraftScout.com and CBS Sports, said he received good feedback with his technique while at the Senior Bowl.

Experience in a press-man scheme applies to Howard, a projected third-round pick, and Burris, who projects as a seventh-round pick.

Burris said he mostly played press-man at North Carolina State, adding he especially enjoyed sitting down with the Chiefs to break down plays during his informal interview.

“That was the fun part of it, just sitting down and going over diagram plays, Xs and Os, that’s my thing,” Burris said. “We can get to know each other, but I want to talk football.”

CONFIRMED INTERVIEWS AT THE COMBINE

The Chiefs are allowed a maximum of 60 formal interviews in 15-minute increments with no limit on informal meetings.
