KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to hire Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson as head coach, according to numerous media reports.

Eagles beat writer Les Bowen of The Philadelphia Daily News was the first to report the news.

The Eagles and Chiefs have not confirmed the anticipated move, but that doesn’t come as a surprise because the Eagles can’t officially hire Pederson while the Chiefs are in the playoffs.

The Chiefs play the New England Patriots on Saturday at Gillette Stadium.

For his part, the 47-year-old Pederson said Wednesday his interview with the Eagles proceeded well.

“It went great,” Pederson said. “It was a great opportunity to see (Eagles executive vice president of football operations) Howie (Roseman) again and Mr. (Eagles owner Jeffrey) Lurie and the chance to talk with them and sit down with them. I have a lot of respect for the organization and what they’re doing there.”

Pederson was with Andy Reid in Philadelphia as an offensive quality control coach (2009-10) and quarterbacks coach (2011-12) before following Reid to Kansas City in 2013.
