Chiefs’ De’Anthony Thomas expected to practice Sunday; Tavon Rooks undergoing tests

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chiefs second-year wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas (calf) is expected to practice Sunday afternoon, coach Andy Reid said.

But the team plans to ease in Thomas, who participated in the morning walkthrough.

“We’ll see how he holds up,” Reid said. “Just kind of take him slow out there.”

Thomas suffered a calf injury in the preseason opener and missed the past two exhibition contests.

Reid said wide receiver Albert Wilson (shoulder), running back Charcandrick West (concussion), guard/tackle Jeff Allen (knee), left tackle Eric Fisher (ankle), quarterback Tyler Bray (knee), wide receiver Junior Hemingway (hip), rookie linebacker Justin March (knee), linebacker Josh Mauga (heel), defensive tackle Dontari Poe (back), offensive lineman Tavon Rooks (undetermined) and wide receiver Jason Avant will not practice Sunday afternoon.

Avant missed two days of practice the previous week with a hip strain, but played in Friday night’s preseason contest against the Tennessee Titans.

Wilson sustained an AC sprain against the Titans, while the Chiefs announced Saturday West suffered a concussion.

Rooks hasn’t practiced or participated in the three preseason games since leaving training camp practice on Aug. 17 with what the team called “shortness of breath.”

A specific diagnosis of Rooks’ condition remains unknown.

“He’s actually going through tests right now,” Reid said, “so they’re doing a variety of things. Just seeing how that works out.”
