Chiefs to celebrate ‘Red Thursday’ alongside home opener

Chiefs to celebrate ‘Red Thursday’ alongside home opener

Amie Just July 27, 2015

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs generally celebrate the kickoff to football season with “Red Friday” before the first home game.

This season, “Red Friday” becomes “Red Thursday” on Sept. 17 to coincide with the Chiefs’ home opener against the Denver Broncos on CBS’ Thursday Night Football.

“This year, Red Thursday is going to capture all of the annual Red Friday excitement from around the city and match that with the energy and vigor that our fans and all of Chiefs Kingdom feel on gameday,” Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said in a press release. “This tradition is a highlight for the organization every year, and we are looking forward to sharing an exciting day of Chiefs events with our fans, culminating in our primetime contest against the Broncos at Arrowhead.”

“This is Chiefs Kingdom” flags will be sold at more than 170 locations for a minimum $5 donation.

Flags will be sold on select street corners, manned by Chiefs executives, former Chiefs players, Red Coaters, Chiefs Cheerleaders, various prominent people from the Kansas City area and volunteers.

The net proceeds, like last season, will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City.

More information, including the locations of where the flags will be sold, will be available on the Chiefs’ Red Thursday website in a few weeks.
