Chiefs sign CB Kenneth Penny; waive CB De’Vante Bausby, G Melvin Meggs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs made roster moves Thursday, which marked the final day of mandatory minicamp.

Cornerback Kenneth Penny, who attended minicamp as a tryout player, signed after a successful workout.

The 5-11, 173-pound Penny, who played collegiately at UNLV, also attended the rookie minicamp on a tryout basis in May.

The Chiefs waived cornerback De’Vante Bausby and guard Melvin Meggs to make room on the roster.

The 6-2, 180-pound Bausby, a Kansas City native who played collegiately at Pittsburg State, suffered a clavicle injury during organized team activities and underwent surgery Thursday.

If Bausby was waived with an injury designation, the Chiefs can place him on injured reserve barring an injury settlement and provided he clears waivers. [UPDATE: The Chiefs waived Bausby after reaching an injury settlement, according to Friday’s NFL Transactions report.]

The 6-2, 299-pound Meggs originally signed with the Chiefs after a successful tryout during rookie minicamp.

The moves put the current roster at 89 players before training camp, leaving one spot available.

The Chiefs currently has $388,565 in available cap room, per the NFLPA database.
