KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs shook up the roster Monday, a day before the start of mandatory minicamp.
The Chiefs signed offensive lineman Tavon Rooks, according to his agent Richard Koppelman of KLASS Sports.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 6-5, 300-pound Rooks entered the league in 2014 out of Kansas State as a sixth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints.
New Orleans cut Rooks in late August prior to signing him to the practice squad, where he spent the 2014 season before signing a reserve/future deal with the Arizona Cardinals on Jan. 5, 2015.
Rooks participated in the Cardinals’ organized team activities before being released on June 5.
The Chiefs finished OTAs with 15 offensive linemen, so Rooks adds depth.
Kansas City entered OTAs with 90 players on the offseason roster, and will need to make a move to accommodate Rooks’ signing.
Rooks is the first K-State player on the Chiefs roster since the 2013 offseason when the team drafted fullback Braden Wilson in the sixth round, and had safety Tysyn Hartman and linebacker Zac Diles in training camp.
Wilson, Hartman and Diles did not make the final 53-man roster.
