Chiefs set to sign G Paul Fanaika

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs have focused on bolstering the offensive line with a veteran player familiar with coach Andy Reid.

The Chiefs are set to sign unrestricted free agent guard Paul Fanaika to a three-year contract pending a physical, a source familiar with the situation confirmed Wednesday afternoon with ChiefsDigest.com.

The Chiefs have not announced the transaction.

The 6-5, 327-pound Fanaika, most recently with the Arizona Cardinals, originally entered the league in 2009 out of Arizona State with the Philadelphia Eagles where Reid previously coached.

The former Sun Devil spent time on the Eagles practice squad before Washington signed him in November 2009. Fanaika then had a brief stint with the Cleveland Browns (2010) before spending two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks (2011-12).

Fanaika, who turns 29 on April 9, was with the Cardinals the past two seasons where he appeared in 30 games, all starts.

The native of San Mateo, Calif., has appeared in 33 career games with 30 starts.

The signing of Fanaika addresses a bona fide need and comes on the heels of the Chiefs losing unrestricted free agent center Rodney Hudson to the Oakland Raiders.

Kansas City also has guard Mike McGlynn, right tackle Ryan Harris and tackle/guard Jeff Linkenbach as unrestricted free agents.
