KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Bolstering the defensive line ahead of Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos appears a priority after surrendering 179 yards rushing and two touchdowns in Week 12.
The Chiefs on Monday signed defensive tackle Nick Williams from the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad to the 53-man active roster, a source confirmed with ChiefsDigest.com.
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com and NFL Network first reported the move Monday morning.
The 6-4, 309-pound Williams originally entered the league out of Samford as the Steelers’ seventh-round pick (223rd overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.
He spent last season on injured reserve with a knee injury.
Williams, a native of Birmingham, Ala., offers immediate depth to a Chiefs defensive line set to face a Broncos running game that totaled 201 yards rushing and a touchdown in Week 12.
Kansas City is also dealing with defensive end Kevin Vickerson’s calf injury, which the ninth-year pro suffered in the 24-20 loss to the Oakland Raiders.
The Chiefs will need to make a roster move to accommodate Williams on the active roster.
The Chiefs have not confirmed or announced the signing.
