Chiefs sign G Jarrod Pughsley to practice squad, release DE Jerel Worthy

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs signed guard Jarrod Pughsley to the practice squad, according to Tuesday’s NFL Transactions report.

The Chiefs terminated defensive end Jerel Worthy’s practice squad contract to make room for Pughsley.

The 6-5, 313-pound Pughsley entered the league in May as an undrafted free agent out of Akron with the Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas waived Pughsley on May 27, and then placed him on the reserve/injured list on May 28 with a torn biceps after he cleared waivers. Pughsley and the Cowboys reached an injury settlement in late July.

Pughsley, a native of Lima, Ohio, was a third-team All-MAC selection in 2013. He originally made the Akron football team as a walk-on.

As for the player Pughsley replaces, the Chiefs signed Worthy to the practice squad on Sept. 9.

The 6-2, 308-pound Worthy is a former second-round pick (51st overall) of the Green Bay Packers in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Packers traded Worthy to the New England Patriots on Aug. 13, 2014 before the Patriots released him on Aug. 30.

Worthy had ties to Chiefs general manager John Dorsey, who was in Green Bay as the director of football operations in 2012.

The Chiefs current 10-man practice squad consists of Pughsley, wide receiver Armon Binns, tight end Brandon Barden, offensive tackle Curtis Feight, guard Ricky Henry, linebacker Orie Lemon, cornerback Deji Olatoye, safety Daniel Sorensen, running back Charcandrick West and wide receiver Fred Williams.
