Chiefs place RB Joe McKnight on injured reserve

Chiefs place RB Joe McKnight on injured reserve

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs on Tuesday placed running Joe McKnight, who ruptured his Achilles last Thursday during practice, on injured reserve.

McKnight, a fourth-year pro, finishes the season with 67 total yards (3 rushing) and two receiving touchdowns. He also contributed three kickoff returns for 65 yards.

Tuesday’s transaction freed a roster spot, which in all likelihood belongs to right tackle Donald Stephenson, who is eligible to return after serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing substances.

McKnight, who is in his first year with the Chiefs, becomes the third player to land on injured reserve with an Achilles injury since the season started.

The Chiefs previously placed inside linebacker Derrick Johnson and defensive end Mike DeVito on injured reserve after Week 1.

McKnight tweeted a photo Monday evening while the Chiefs were getting ready to host the New England Patriots at Arrowhead Stadium:
