KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs could have a primary offensive weapon Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

Running back Jamaal Charles (ankle) was present Friday morning on the practice field, raising optimism for his availability in Week 3.

Charles, who did not practice Wednesday, was observed participating in warm-ups and position drills during the 20-minute period open to the media for a second straight day.

The All-Pro running back suffered what the Chiefs called a high ankle sprain, which is generally a multi-week recovery process, in the first quarter of Week 2’s loss against the Denver Broncos.

Backup running back Knile Davis will start against the Dolphins if Charles is unavailable Sunday.

Strong safety Eric Berry (ankle) and rookie running back/wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas (hamstring) were not on the practice field during the portion open to the media.

Berry did not practice Wednesday and Thursday after suffering his injury in Week 2.

Thomas, the team’s fourth-round pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, put in a limited practice Wednesday, marking his first practice since Sept. 3, before missing the past two days.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid addressed the media at 1 p.m. CT, so specific updates could be available at that time.

The Chiefs will release the official injury report with gameday designations of “out,” “doubtful,” “questionable” or “probable” later Friday afternoon.
