Chiefs bring back WR Kyle Williams

Chiefs bring back WR Kyle Williams

Herbie Teope April 21, 2014

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – It was a social media déjà vu surrounding Monday afternoon’s news that free-agent wide receiver wide receiver Kyle Williams had signed with the Chiefs.

Williams originally tweeted on Nov. 13, 2013 he was heading to the Chiefs after being claimed off waivers.

And following a period of time as an unrestricted free agent since the start of the league’s calendar year, Williams tweeted his return to Kansas City.

Great to be back with the @KCChiefs officially! Great to be back to work!! #ChiefsKingdom

Williams’ agent, Wynn Silberman, confirmed the signing with ChiefsSpin.com during a phone call.

Silberman, who said Williams was “happy to return,” didn’t offer the financial details, but said his client signed a one-year deal.

The Chiefs confirmed the signing later Monday afternoon.

Williams saw action with the Chiefs last season in one game on special teams before suffering a knee injury during practice. The Chiefs placed him on season-ending injured reserve on Nov. 22.

Entering his sixth season, Williams offers the Chiefs versatility on special teams as a returner and as a receiver, potentially good reasons to bring him back.

“I saw enough of him when he played here before,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said of Williams during Monday’s media session. “He’s a good player, he’s an exciting player.”
