KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Linebacker Nick Bolton leads the Chiefs’ inactive list in their Week 3 matchup with the Chicago Bears, as Kansas City will be without its leading tackler.
But running back Isiah Pacheco (hamstring), wide receiver Kadarius Toney (toe) and linebacker Willie Gay (quad) are active and will play against the Bears. The trio was listed Friday as questionable for today’s game.
Also among this week’s inactive list are offensive tackles Lucas Niang and Wanya Morris, defensive end BJ Thompson, defensive tackle Keondre Cobuurn and cornerback Nic Jones.
Bolton was ruled out on Friday due to an ankle injury sustained last week against Jacksonville, so his absence is no surprise. He leads the club with 15 tackles through the season’s first two weeks. Drue Tranquill is expected to start as the middle linebacker and wear the green dot designating the defensive player who receives signals from the sideline and calls the plays on the field.
Saturday the Chiefs elevated linebacker Cole Christiansen and wide receiver Montrell Washington from the practice squad for today’s game. Christiansen will likely fill in on special teams for Tranquill, who played 23 special teams snaps during the first two weeks of the season.
Washington is the like return specialist for the Chiefs on Sunday, taking over for injured receiver Richie James. The club placed James on injured reserve Saturday with an MCL injury in his knee. Washington averaged 8.5 yards on 32 punt returns as a rookie for Denver last season along with 18.9 yards on 18 kick returns.
That means the Chiefs will have seven wide receivers active again on Sunday. But with Toney likely limited with a sprained toe injury and Washington expected to play primarily special teams, that could carve out more snaps to be spread out for backups Rashee Rice and Justyn Ross.
