Week 17: Wednesday injury report

Herbie Teope December 25, 2013

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs list eight players on the initial injury report for Sunday’s game against the San Diego Chargers.

The Chiefs practiced Tuesday and were off Wednesday, so the report reflects the participation from Tuesday.

Outside linebacker Tamba Hali (knee) is listed as not practicing, which isn’t a surprise since coach Andy Reid informed reporters Tuesday of Hali’s status.

Hali experienced swelling in his knee against the Colts, but Reid indicated Monday it shouldn’t be a long-term issue.

“We’ll have to get it out of there before we can go,” Reid said of the swelling. “He should be ok down the road here.”

There is encouraging news surrounding the return of left tackle Branden Albert (knee) and outside linebacker Justin Houston (elbow), both of whom put in a full practice after recently missing games.

Houston has been out since suffering his elbow injury in Week 12, while Albert has been out since injuring his knee in Week 13.

Of course, the Chiefs may not risk further injury to either player in the final regular season game when considering the team can’t improve on the No. 5 playoff seed.

But it appears Albert and Houston should be ready for the postseason.

The Chiefs also list right tackle Eric Fisher (shoulder), linebacker James-Michael Johnson (shoulder), cornerback Ron Parker (ankle, shoulder), offensive lineman Donald Stephenson (knee) and kicker Ryan Succop (right groin) as full participants.

Meanwhile, the Chargers list six players on the initial report, with running back Ryan Mathews, who did practice with an ankle injury, headlining San Diego’s injuries.
