KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles headlines a group of four players not practicing Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders.

Charles is battling knee and ankle injuries from Week 14, and coach Andy Reid was cautiously optimistic the team could have the star rusher on game day.

“I think he’ll be OK,” Reid said after the morning walk-through, “but he’s got to go through the treatment. We’ll see.”

Also not practicing tight end Anthony Fasano (knee), linebacker Tamba Hali (knee) and defensive end Allen Bailey (concussion).

“They’re making progress,” Reid said. “Allen’s thing is just being able to pass the test.”

Hali was observed without his helmet taking part with teammates in the warm-up and stretching portion of the indoor afternoon practice open to the media. He left the field when the Chiefs moved to individual position drills.

The Chiefs list wide receiver Donnie Avery (groin), cornerback Phillip Gaines (concussion), linebacker Joe Mays (groin) as limited.

Gaines began practice before sustaining the concussion, according to a team spokesman.

This marks the second time Gaines has dealt with a concussion. He previously had one in the days leading to Week 7’s game against San Diego Chargers, but didn’t miss the game.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Junior Hemingway returned to the practice field after passing his concussion protocol tests. Hemingway, who has missed the last two games, put in full practice.

The Chiefs also the list free safety Husain Abdullah (foot), linebacker James-Michael Johnson (back, knee), cornerback Chris Owens (knee) and cornerback Sean Smith (groin) as full participants.
