KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs look doubtful to have running back Jamaal Charles on the field Sunday against San Diego, according to the team’s Friday practice report.
The team listed Charles as doubtful for the game and limited in practice. Coach Andy Reid called it unlikely Charles would play Sunday.
“Jamaal’s probably not going to play,” Reid said.
Reid did not commit to naming Spencer Ware as the team’s starter, saying all the team’s backs other than Charles would play.
“You could probably say that,” Reid said referring to Ware as the starter, “but it depends on the personnel group so don’t hold me accountable.”
Linebacker Tamba Hali returned to practice as a limited participant after missing practice Thursday for personal reasons.
Cornerback Phillip Gaines (knee) and West (elbow) were full participants in practice and along with Hali are virtually certain to play Sunday.
All Chargers’ players are expected to play. Only cornerback Jason Verrett was limited in practice.
