Thursday injury report: week 9

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Three Chiefs starters sat out practice Wednesday, including wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. A team spokesperson said Maclin had a sore groin muscle.

Running back Spencer Ware (concussion) and defensive lineman Jaye Howard (hip) each missed practice Thursday. Ware remains in the NFL’s return to play protocol after sustain a concussion Sunday at Indianapolis.

Howard’s availability against the Jaguars is unclear, Sutton said.

“Hopefully, we’re going to get him back,” Sutton said. “If we get him back, we’d probably be in our same normal rotation. If we don’t, then Chris [Jones] has to stay in a little longer. I think we’ll be fine in it.”

Cornerback D.J. White returned to practice this week after surgery for a broken hand last Oct. 24. White’s hand appeared heavily wrapped, but the rookie took part in defensive back drills. He did not catch any passes, however.

Linebacker Justin Houston, who remains on the physically unable to perform list, appeared on the practice field in uniform. He observed the portion of the practice open the media on Wednesday without a helmet.
