KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Running back Jamaal Charles plans to play for the Chiefs against the New Orleans Saints Sunday. The running back participated in drills on the field with quarterback Alex Smith before receiving the all-go to lineup today.
But don’t expect Charles to play much more than he did a week ago against the Oakland Raiders, when Charles played 15 snaps. Spencer Ware expects to receive the bulk of the work as the Chiefs featured back.
The biggest loss for the Chiefs among the inactives is cornerback Phillip Gaines. Gaines left last Sunday’s game against Oakland with inflammation in his surgically repaired left knee, and remained limited in practice during the week. The team listed him as questionable for the game Friday.
Defensive lineman Kendall Reyes, a free agent signed this week in the wake of Allen Bailey heading to injured reserve, is active along with Rakeem Nunez-Roches, who was promoted from the practice squad.
The Chiefs list Ramik Wilson as the starter at right inside linebacker with Sam Barrington as the back up. The team promoted Wilson from the practice squad after the team placed starter Justin March-Lillard on injured reserve with a broken hand.
Other inactive players for the Chiefs include: quarterback Tyler Bray, corner Terrance Mitchell, linebacker Sio Moore, tight end Ross Travis and offensive line linemen Jordan Devey and Bryan Witzmann.
Inactive players for the Saints: cornerbacks Delvin Breaux and Sterling Moore; tackle Andrus Peat; running backs Marcus Murphy and Daniel Lasco; and linebackers LB Dannell Ellerbe and Stephone Anthony
