KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Two players from the Chiefs and New England Patriots are lighter in the pocket almost a week after the AFC Divisional playoff game at Gillette Stadium.
The NFL fined Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola $23,152 for a blindside block on cornerback Jamell Fleming during game, a league spokesman confirmed Friday with ChiefsDigest.com and The Topeka Capital-Journal.
The specific play occurred at the 9:08 mark of the second quarter on a punt return when Amendola leveled Fleming, who was attempting to down the ball at the Patriots’ 4-yard line.
Amendola immediately drew a penalty for unnecessary roughness and officials had to separate players from both teams in the end zone. The penalty moved the ball back half the distance to the goal at the 2-yard line.
On the subsequent drive, Chiefs outside linebacker Dezman Moses drew a flag for roughing the passer on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady after delivering a late hit at the Chiefs’ 35-yard line.
Moses was fined $17,363 for the infraction, according to the league spokesman.
The Chiefs were penalized 15 yards, moving the ball to the 20, and the Patriots would score four plays later on Brady’s 1-yard plunge to give New England a 14-3 lead.
The Patriots went on to defeat the Chiefs, 27-20, and advance to the AFC Conference Championship game.
