KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The reign of Patrick Mahomes atop the AFC continues for another week, with the 23-year-old Chiefs quarterback winning AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second-straight week opening the season.

Mahomes lead the Chiefs to 42-37 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers while completing 23 of 28 passes for 326 yards and six touchdowns. His 10 touchdowns so far this season are the most by any quarterback since at least 1950 through the first two games of the season.

The last Chiefs' player to win back-to-back an AFC player of the week was running back Larry Johnson, who won the honor in week 16 and 17 of the 2005 season. Tom Brad was the last player to win player of the week honors in the first two weeks of the season during the 2011 campaign.

Mahomes added several league and franchise records to his resume with Sunday's performance. He also holds the record for most touchdown passes for a quarterback in the first three games of their career with 10. His six touchdown passes on Sunday tied the franchise record now shared with Hall of Famer Len Dawson.

The AFC Defensive Player of the Week award went to Indianapolis Colts linebacker Darius Leonard while Tennessee Titans safety Dane Cruikshank took the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

The NFC also saw a repeat winner for Offensive Player of the Week honors with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick taking the award again. The defensive award went to Chicago Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan while San Francisco 49ers kickers Robbie Gould took special teams honors. The Chiefs face Gould and the 49ers this Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium for the home opener.
