Patrick Mahomes Leads Three Chiefs in Top 10 of NFL Top 100 List

Patrick Mahomes Leads Three Chiefs in Top 10 of NFL Top 100 List

Matt Derrick August 7, 2023

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Only three Chiefs made this year’s NFL Top 100 list but led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes at No. 1, the club landed three players among the 10 best players in the league for 2023.

Tight end Travis Kelce landed at No. 5 with defensive tackle Chris Jones coming at No. 10 in the rankings. The list is voted upon by the league’s players.

It’s the second time that Mahomes has topped the annual ratings, which debuted in 2011. Mahomes also ranked No. 1 in 2021. Mahomes joins Tom Brady (2011, 2017, 2018 and 2022) as players voted No. 1 more than once.

Mahomes made his first appearance on the list at No. 4 in 2019 and remained there in 2020. After reaching No. 1 in 2021, Mahomes fell to No. 8 last season before rebounding to the top spot this season.

This marks the eighth appearance on the NFL Top 100 for Kelce. He entered the list at No. 91 in 2016 but has ranked no lower than No. 26 in the last seven years. He has been ranked in the top 10 each of the last three seasons, coming in at No. 5 in 2021 and No. 10 in 2022.

Jones made the top 100 for the fifth-straight season, and No. 10 marks a new high watermark for him. His previous best was No. 34 in the 2021 rankings.

Former Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill ranked No. 7 on this year’s list. That marks his first appearance in the top 10 after coming in at No. 15 in each of the past two lists.

Here is the list of the top 10 players in the voting along with their ranking in last year’s list:

  1. QB Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs (8)
  2. WR Justin Jefferson, Vikings (17)
  3. QB Jalen Hurts, Eagles (not ranked)
  4. DE Nick Bosa, 49ers (25)
  5. TE Travis Kelce, Chiefs (10)
  6. QB Joe Burrow, Bengals (21)
  7. WR Tyreek Hill, Dolphins (15)
  8. QB Josh Allen, Bills (13)
  9. LB Micah Parsons, Cowboys (16)
  10. DT Chris Jones, Chiefs (39)

Mahomes secured the top spot after winning his second Super Bowl title in four seasons en route to becoming the first player since 1999 to earn NFL and Super Bowl MVP honors in the same season. He also set an NFL single-season record with 5,420 total yards of offense.

Kelce climbed back into the top five of the list on the strength of his seventh-straight 1,000-yard receiving season in 2022. He’s also the only player in the NFL with at least 90 catches in each of the last five seasons. He set a personal-best with 110 receptions last season along with 1,338 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns.

Jones delivered a career year in 2022, matching his career-high with 15.5 sacks and leading all defensive tackles with 77 pressures. He finished third in the voting for the Associated Press defensive player of the year while also earning his first-team All-Pro Honors.
