NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Injuries have created a lonely sideline at times for the Chiefs this season, and the bug bit again on Sunday with defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah and offensive lineman Martinas Rankin sustaining serious injuries forcing more lineup shuffles.
Ogbah sustained a torn right pectoral muscle and Martinas a right knee injury, head coach Andy Reid said after the game. Both players will undergo an MRI in Kansas City on Monday to determine the extent of the injuries.
Right tackle Mitchell Schwartz also briefly left the game with a knee injury. He had never missed a snap in his NFL career until Sunday, a streak of 7,894 snaps that was the longest active streak in the NFL.
Schwartz returned to the game in the second and felt he moved around pretty well, but doesn't know if there is any damage that could cause a long-term issue.
“Nothing broken or anything like that,” Schwartz said. “You can do that little checklist and you know it's probably not a broken bone right off the bat, and so it shouldn't be too bad long term. I don't know. We haven't really gotten anything tested, so I don't really know what's going on.”
Schwartz and Rankin went down on consecutive plays. When Schwartz left, Rankin moved from left guard to right tackle with Stefen Wisniewski. When Rankin exited, Andrew Wylie moved from right guard to right tackle with Nick Allegretti coming in at right guard. When Schwartz returned in the second half, Wylie moved back to right guard.
Wylie said he and Allegretti were prepared to finish the game holding down the right side of the line.
“(Allegretti) had a gleam in his eye, and I was ready to go take some tackle stats and get to work,” Wylie said. “Schwartz is a tough guy, one of the toughest guys I know.”
Receiver Tyreek Hill also received attention from trainers on the field after getting driven to ground on a tackle by cornerback LeShaun Sims. Hill returned to the game a few plays later.
Running back LeSean McCoy didn't play against the Titans, but it wasn't an injury or two recent fumbles that kept him out of the lineup, Reid said.
“I just thought it was the right thing to do right now,” Reid said. “LeSean's not getting any younger, so it's important that manage him the right was as we go. I just Thought it was the right thing to do at this time.”
