KANSAS CITY, Mo. — All 53 players on the Chiefs’ active roster practiced on Monday in preparation for Thursday night’s season opener against the Detroit Lions but four key players were limited.
Wide receivers Kadarius Toney and Richie James were limited along with cornerback L’Jarius Sneed and defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton. All four players are dealing with various knee ailments.
Toney is a projected starter but will likely play a limited role on Thursday. Sneed is another projected starter but this week marks his first practice since July 28 due to knee inflammation. Wharton is seeking to make his regular-season return after sustaining a torn ACL last October. James, who will be the team’s punt and kick return specialist, is new to the injury list with a knee issue.
Offensive lineman Nick Allegretti, who is the team’s sixth lineman and primary backup at center and guard, was a full participant after dealing with a pectoral injury during training camp. Cornerback Nic Jones, who fractured his hand in the preseason opener, was also a full participant. Rookie defensive end BJ Thompson was a full go despite a sore hamstring.
