Mitch Morse, Eric Murray out for Chiefs versus Raiders

Mitch Morse, Eric Murray out for Chiefs versus Raiders

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs Center Mitch Morse and safety Eric Murray will not play Sunday against Oakland.

Morse suffered a setback with his sprained left foot during last week’s loss to the New York Jets. He appeared in the locker room Thursday wearing a walking boot. Murray suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 12 against Buffalo and will miss his second straight game.

Linebacker Tamba Hali did not practice Thursday or Friday. The Chiefs moved workouts indoors, and head coach Andy Reid prefers Hali not workout on the turf surface. Th team listed Hali questionable versus  the Raiders.

Zach Fulton expects to start in Morse’s slot at center. Bryan Witzmann entered the game at left guard when Fulton moved to center in Morse’s absence against the Jets. Cameron Erving also remains a possibility. Safety Steven Terrell likely picks up most of the slack in the secondary with Murray out.

The Chiefs entered Friday already knowing they would be without linebacker Dee Ford. The team placed Ford on injured reserve Thursday night with a back injury. Reid said the team’s medical staff hoped rest and rehabilitation would allow Ford to return to the field.

“So that’s what they did rehabbed him, and it wasn’t making the progress that they had hoped,” Reid said. “So that’s where were at.”

The suspension of Marcus Peters also leaves a gap at cornerback. Steven Nelson and Darrelle Revis expect to get substantial playing time, but Terrance Mitchell, Kenneth Acker and Phillip Gaines all remain possibilities in substitution roles. Defensive coordinator Bob Sutton did not tip his hand who would play both corner positions against Oakland.

“Honestly, we are rolling guys through both places,” Sutton said.

Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper returned to practice on a limited basis Friday. That marked his first practice since sustaining a concussion and ankle injury in Week 12. The team listed Cooper as questionable for Sunday’s game.
