5:40 p.m.
Tyreek Hill hit the field during warmups to run routes and receive passes just as he did last week at Detroit. Hill looks ahead of schedule in return from the sternum/clavicle dislocation he suffered in Week 1. The Chiefs haven't been in a hurry to rush him back, so we'll see if he returns next week against Houston or on the short turnaround in Week 7 at Denver.
5:57 p.m
Chiefs inactives versus the Colts:
WR Tyreek Hill, LT Eric Fisher, DL Alex Okafor, LB Dorian O'Daniel, RB Darwin Thompson, OL Nick Allegretti and OL Greg Senat.
Hill, Fisher and O'Daniel were ruled out on Friday, and Okafor was listed as questionable with a hip injury that forced him out of last week's game at Detroit. His absence means rookie DT Khalen Saunders will play tonight.
Thompson is a mild surprise given his preseason performance and high expectations. But with Damien Williams active tonight, that makes Thompson a luxury against the Colts. Williams along with LeSean McCoy and Darrel Williams will handle to workload in the backfield.
Morris Claiborne is active for tonight, but it remains unclear how much he plays. The Chiefs list Emmanuel Ogbah as the starter in place of Okafor.
6:13 p.m.
The Colts will have wide receiver T.Y. Hilton (quad) and RB Marlon Mack (ankle) for tonight's game, but they have plenty of other injury issues. Starting safeties Clayton Geathers and Malik Hooker are out, along with backup Rolan Milligan. The biggest loss is All-Pro linebacker Darius Leonard, who will a third-straight game with a concussion.
Colts inactives: WR Parris Campbell, S Clayton Geathers, S Malik Hookier, S Rolan Milligan, G/T Le'Raven Clark and DE/DT Tyquan Lewis.
6:42 p.m.
Damien Williams takes the first rep with the No. 1 offense during run through. No changes on the defensive side in the secondary. Charvarius Ward and Bashad Breeland took the first-team reps at cornerback.
6:46 p.m.
Looks Emmanuel Ogbah will indeed start at defensive end opposite Frank Clark on the defense line,. He took first-team reps during the run through with Chris Jones and Derrick Nnadi inside. Rest of the defensive starters the same with Ward and Breeland at corner, Tyrann Mathieu and Juan Thornhill at safety and linebackers Anthony Hitchens, Damien Wilson and Darron Lee.
6:55 p.m.
Tonight's game is part of the NFL's "Fantennial Weekend" in celebration of the NFL's 100th season. The team will induct Brian Waters in the Chiefs Hall of Fame and Ring of Honor at halftime, and he will serve as the Drum Deck honoree as well. More than 60 Chiefs alumni are schedule to be in attendance tonight. Former Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Sly James will be honored in the Lamar Hunt Legacy Seats. The Chiefs also plan for a "Light Up Arrowhead" segment during player introductions with fans encouraged to use the team's mobile to take part in introductions.
7:19 p.m.
Chiefs captains Cam Erving, Damien Wilson and Daniel Sorensen. Justin Houston calls the toss for the Colts and wins the toss. Chiefs will receive to open the game.
Opening Kickoff
Mecole Hardman back to receive the opening kick after fumbling last week in Detroit.
12:43, first quarter
Damien Williams returns in the starting running back role and has two catches and a run in the first five plays. Not showing any ill effects thus far from the knee bruise that kept him out the last two weeks.
Chiefs 3-0, 9:02, first quarter
Mahomes and the Chiefs moved briskly on their opening drive before getting bogged down in the red zone. Byron Pringle had three big catches for 37 yards. Damien Williams had four touches for 16 yards, looked pretty sharp in returning from the knee bruise.
More injury issues in the secondary for the Colts. CB Kenny Moore is questionable to return, and CB Shakial Taylor went off at the end of the Chiefs' opening drive, no update on his status yet.
Colts 7, Chiefs 3, 3:44 , first quarter
Colts offensive line and Marlon Mack absolutely gashed the Chiefs on their opening drive. Mack with five carries for 40 yards, 52 yards in total on the ground. Jacoby Brissett a perfect 3-of-3 for 26 yards and finishes drive with 1-yard touchdown drive.
Chiefs are allowing 150 yards on the ground per game, and they can't do that against the Colts and hope to escape. The big plays remain a problem — they bottled up Mack with just 10 yards on his first four carries, then he breaks loose with a 30-yard gain.
End of the first quarter
Neither defense performed particularly well in the first 15 minutes. The two teams combined for 213 yards of offense. Chiefs can't stop the Colts run game, Colts can't deny Mahomes on third down. Chiefs need a touchdown on this drive, then it's up to the defense to get a stop. They will struggle slowing Brissett and the Colts' short-passing game if they can't bottle up Mack and the run game first.
Chiefs 10, Colts 7, 14:08, second quarter
Repeat: the Colts can't stop Mahomes on third down. After Justin Houston sacks Mahomes to set up a third-and-18 at the Colts' 27-yard line, Mahomes escapes the rush, scrambles back to nearly midfield, runs back toward the line of scrimmage and finds Byron Pringle wide open for his first career touchdown. Pringle with five catches for 76 yards, Mahomes 13-of-17 for 157 yards.
LB Anthony Hitchens (groin) questionable to return
The Chiefs are struggling to stop the run, and now they will have to do it without Hitchens. Ben Niemann has come on in place of Hitchens with Damien Wilson, Darron Lee remaining as the third linebacker in 4-3 base packages.
Chiefs 10, Colts 10, 11:12, second quarter
Chiefs get a much-needed stop in the red zone after the 53-yard pass interference call against Bashaud Breeland. The Chiefs came into the game 12th in the league in red zone defense, allowing a touchdown 52.9 percent of the time. They are 1-of-2 so far tonight.
Morris Claiborne enters the game
Claiborne entered the game starting the third Colts' drive of the game as the left cornerback with Kendall Fuller in the slot. Bashaud Breeland lined up on the left side, although he has been traveling in this game matching up with T.Y. Hilton. Too early to tell if this means a switch from Charvarius Ward or if the Chiefs simply want to get him into the game for some reps.
Niemann remain in the game for Hitchens, and Daniel Sorensen came in for rookie Juan Thornhill.
Tyrann Mathieu interception
The Honey Badger picked a whale of a time for his first turnover as a Chief, picking off Brissett and returning the ball to the Chiefs' 37-yard line. Mathieu read that play the whole way.
LeSean McCoy fumbles
The Chiefs looked in business after a patented Andy Reid screen play to LeSean McCoy picked up 21 yards, but a fumble at the end of the run gives the ball away. That was McCoy's first fumble since Week 10 of the 2017 season, a 25-game stretch.
Too Many Hits on Mahomes
The Colts picked up two sacks and four hits on Mahomes in the e first half, illustrating the struggles of the offensive line to prove the quarterback a clean pocket. That doesn't even count the escapes Mahomes has delivered getting away from pressure and making throws downfield. The Chiefs have used some misdirection, screen plays, play action and RPOs to try to freeze the pass rush, but the Colts haven't had any trouble getting into the backfield tonight.
Mahomes on the run
HALFTIME: Colts 13, Chiefs 10
Rough first half for the Chiefs defense, although they surrender just 13 points. Marlon Mack racked up 62 yards rushing, while Jacoby Brissett finished 12-of-19 for 116 yards and an interception after a hot start early.
The Chiefs have virtually abandoned the run game with Damien Williams picking up 12 yards on four carries. The Chiefs netted just 11 yards rushing in the first half. Mahomes stands 16-of-28 for 208 yards and a touchdown, but the Colts have kept him out of the end zone.
KEYS TO THE SECOND HALF
1. Tighten up the run defense
The Chiefs made a move in that direction by going to a dime look with Ben Niemann at linebacker and Daniel Sorensen as a dime safety. Still hasn't solved all their problems, but without Hitchens defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo needs to continue tinkering.
2. Better protect Mahomes
The Chiefs have conceded the ground thus far, and they can do that with Mahomes at quarterback. But even if it means sacrificing a target for Mahomes downfield, the need to get some chip blocks on Justin Houston and Jabaal Sheard on the ends to mix up the blocking scheme. Mahomes can pick apart a depleted Colts' secondary given the time.
3. Eliminate mistakes
Andy Reid is well on his way to using the phrase "shot ourselves in the foot" if the game continues with mistakes. Bashaud Breeland accounted for 68 yards in penalties and three first downs, and the Chiefs have six penalties for 80 yards in the first half along with the McCoy fumble. Protect the football and eliminate defensive penalties and a comeback remains within reach.
Chris Jones out with groin injury
The Chiefs continue suffering big losses due to injury, with Chris Jones now out with a groin injury. He limped off the field during the first Colts' drive of the second half. He went straight to the locker room after briefly visiting with the athletic trainers.
Sammy Watkins (hamstring), Anthony Hitchens (groin) and Xavier Williams (ankle) also are out of the game. That leaves the Chiefs with just five healthy defensive linemen: Frank Clark, Derrick Nnadi, Emmanuel Ogbah, Tanoh Kpassagnon and Khalen Saunders.
More injuries for Chiefs
Defensive end Frank Clark briefly left the game but came back in near the end of the third quarter.
Left guard Andrew Wylie got banged up on the Chiefs' last drive of the third quarter. Trainers are looking at his left leg.
The biggest concern, however, maybe with the left ankle of Patrick Mahomes. He came out of the locker room at halftime with additional tape on the same ankle he injured in Week 1 at Jacksonville. He then got stepped on during the final drive of the third quarter, and had a noticeable limp coming off. He hasn't received any medical attention on the sideline, however.
Colts 16, Chiefs 10, 7:40, fourth quarter
The Colts continue gashing the Chiefs on the ground. On their 35-yard scoring drive culminating with a 31-yard field goal from Adam Vinatieri, the Colts accounted for 44 yards from their running backs. The threw just three passes — one resulted in offensive interference, one went to Marlon Mack out of the backfield for an 11-yard gain and incompletion on third down in the red zone.
Justin Houston snuffs fourth-down try
Left tackle Cam Erving couldn't slow down Houston on the fourth-down run by Damien Williams. Colts take over at the 33-yard line with a chance to close this game out.
Chiefs scoring streak coming to end
Kansas City's streak of scoring more than 25 points in a game will come to an end, barring a late miracle. The Chiefs scored 25 or more points in 25-straight regular season games and 22-straight games including the postseason. Both streaks are NFL records.
FINAL: Colts 19, Chiefs 13
