LB Reggie Ragland starts training camp on non-football injury list

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Chiefs linebacker Reggie Ragland started training camp on the non-football injury list, the result of his knee puffing up following his flight to Kansas City, according to head coach Andy Reid.

“He’s in great shape, we’re just going to let it calm down, precautionary measure, let it calm down and he’ll get back out,” Reid said. “I don’t think it’s going to go crazy about.”

Reid put no timetable on Ragland’s return but emphasized the team does not consider the issue significant.

“We’ll just see how it works,” Reid said. “It could be a few days, could be a week, who knows. When it calms down he’ll be back out here.”

Linebacker Ukeme Eligwe took the first group of reps with the first team defense alongside Anthony Hitchens inside. Terrance Smith and rookie Dorian O’Daniel also received reps.

Three other players also sat out practice, including safety Armani Watts. Reid confirmed Watts strained his ankle during the first day of the team’s rookie minicamp on Monday. The fourth-round pick

Cornerback Ashton Lampkin remains on the sideline as he returns from knee surgery. Rookie wide receiver Josh Crockett was sick.

All other plays took part in the first full team practice of training camp.
